Melukote is one of the alluring
and photogenic places near to Bangalore, which always invite travellers to
visit it and enjoy its serene beauty and divine destination. After planning for
this place a number of times in past, I could finally visit it before the end
of this year. We hit the highway early morning and soon we took diversion for
Hassan road in Neelamangla. After two hours’ drive, we halted at a restaurant
to recharge ourselves with delicious south Indian breakfast. After a good hot
cup of tea, we started again and soon reached to the small sleeping town
Melukote.
A decent crowd was moving towards renowned “Yoga Narsimha temple”
which is at hill. As our group had elders, we skipped it and moved to the
Kalyani. It is one of the largest Kalyani we saw. Kalyani has a spectacular
view. In addition to Kalyani, Melukote has a number of small manmade water body
to restore rain water. It is one of the wonderful engineering to conserve the
water naturally. From Kalyani we moved to “Raya Gopura”. This is one of the
unfinished structures but being situated at height, provide a mighty view of
stunning surroundings. This is a perfect place for photoshoot. A number of Bollywood
songs and local movie filmized here. We went up on the Gopura to have a better
view of the vicinity.
We visited Cheluvanaryana
Swamy temple on the foothills of Raya Gopura. After spending few good hours in
Melukote, we started our journey to Thonnur Kere. About half an hour drive away
from Melukote, this is a huge lake. We spent some time here and enjoyed the
enormity of it. Place is decently crowded. We made our way back to the city now.
Drive on the road is scenic with good eateries and fresh breeze make the drive
more memorable.
